Bonnie McMurray Is Definitely Having a Baby

I'm going to need you guys to come with me. But first, we're going to have to get past the security guards here. All right. All right, everybody, step aside. Don't get so excited. I guess it's kind of nice to have a fan club. Sorry, boys. I know I bought this hay, but it's actually not for you. It's also not for you, Abby Dog. Nor you, Toby Dog. I'm giving this hay to a very special recipient. Hey, Mama Bonnie. For soon to be, I think. How are things looking back there? Yeah, she's looking really close. Like she's going to have a baby very, very soon. All right, here you go, Bonnie. That's all for you. If your sister Belinda wants to get it, she can. Yeah, she is looking like she is very close to having a baby.

Also in my makeshift maternity ward, we've got Belinda Carile. She's looking pretty close. Here is our farm's newest mom. Her name is Anna Green Gables. She's not a new mom, but she had the first calf of the season. That little one's right over here being greeted by the dogs. She is a very cute one. You can see everybody's kind of doing their afternoon nap right now. Hey, sweetie. Still got to give you a name. Let me pet you. Oh, that's a good girl. That's a good girl. Sorry it's so muddy. Things are drying out just a little bit. I know Buffy's not pregnant and I know that Bettyy's not pregnant. And I don't think Als is pregnant. These two might be pregnant. Audrey, who's in the back there, she's definitely pregnant. I'm pretty sure Amanda, who's over here, she's definitely pregnant. I know it must be very lonely being the only calf here on the farm. But very soon, little one, you'll have others to play with that will be your new family. Okay, mama's getting annoyed. She's like, "Don't harass my baby." Abby knows to get out of the way. It's okay, Mom. I'm just coming to visit you. Okay. Yeah, you don't like to be fed by hand. I know. I know. But yeah, today we're just kind of like wait and see here on the farm.

You know, yesterday afternoon actually both Bonnie and Belinda snuck out and I decided to just let them do it because I figured it would actually be easier for them to like be able to just stay clean and keep their calf clean on the fresher ground over there versus coming back in with everybody else where it's so muddy right now. There's another one of our big expecting moms. She's actually my favorite cow, Ariel. And then another expecting mom. How's it going, Annabelle? Annabelle's calf from last year. How's it going, Betty Rubble? You're going to let me pet you. Oh, yeah. You're a good girl. You sure are. I don't have the brush. You She's been letting me brush her pretty much every day. I don't have it with me right this second, though. So, she's wondering why I don't have either brush or treats. She's starting to associate me with those two things. You going to try to eat my hand? But truth be told, the girl I'm really expecting to be the next to drop just based on what I'm seeing on her hind parts there, I think it's going to be Bonnie McMurray. She's definitely looking cranky, though. So, I'm going to leave her be and just let her relax and eat hay and sit in the sun. Now, it looks like somebody else is coming to share her food. So, I'm going to take this hay to lead these guys away. Come on, Tmicus. Come with me. Let's go. Let's go. Come on. Chop chop. You can also see we have some escape ducks here this afternoon. They can sometimes slip underneath the fence that goes over the stream and so that's usually how they're escaping. Sometimes they can figure out their way back in too. The goats really hate to cross the stream. Come on. Come on. Come on. There you go, fellas. Good work. Let's go. We're going to set you back up in your house. All right. Yeah, it is definitely spring vibes here on the farm.

So, it's now a little bit later and I just came out here to fill up the cattle water trough. Do you want to go back in, Bonnie, or do you want to stay out there? I know you already have water elsewhere. Come on. Want to go back in? What do you want to do? Do you want to go in with everybody else? You'd feel happier if you were with the herd. Okay, we're going to open up the gate for her. Let's see if we can get her in. So you can see I've been like spreading mulch hay down on this side just to try to like soak up some of the moisture cuz it's so gross. Come on, Bonance. Let's go. Can you get you in? I'm not going to leave that door open forever. There you go, girl. If you want to deliver in there, you can. I'm not going to fight you. You You pick your spot. Hello, large white farm dogs. I know I'm coming late with your dinner. I had to go to this like writing workshop and so I'm coming back to the farm a little bit late. Hang on, guys. I'm getting you your food. Get you some eggs. Yeah, we're in egg season right now where the dogs get extra eggs. It's kind of a nice treat for them after a pretty lean winter for eggs this year. All right, here we got some food for Abby Dog. Don't worry, Mr. Toby Dog. I'm not forgetting you. Enjoy, buddy boy. And you guys can come with me. Just checking the pasture to see what I can see. It's actually been relatively warm the last couple of days, but tonight I think the low is supposed to be about 15°. So, I really hope if Bonnie has her baby, it's not tonight. She was just looking so close earlier. Hey, Annabelle. How you doing? Where's the other girls? There's Ann's calf up against the fence. I'm actually not seeing Bonnie, so I'm just trying to find her. It's always hard to find a black cow in the middle of the night. I don't really like to go into the cattle pen unless I have to, particularly at night because uh I always worry I might spook the animals and wind up hurting myself. I mean, if I have to go in, I'll go in, but like I said, I try to avoid it. I see Belinda Carile. She's back there against the fence. She looks okay. Oh, I think I see her now. She's in the back corner. I'm going to go check on her. We're going to have to go in from the other side. All right. So, Belinda is definitely not going to cast tonight, I'm pretty sure. Got most of the herd bunched up back here. There's Audrey. Looks like Bonnie is right behind her mom. Uh, I don't see anything doing just yet. We have this big fold of bodies all here, nice and warm. So, I think we should be okay overnight. But, I will check back in with you guys tomorrow morning.

So, this morning, I'm going to completely disrupt my usual flow of chores like I usually do. And so rather than say hello to the dogs or feed the birds or check in with the goats. Hi dogs. We're heading down to the cattle area to check on things. I will say I'm very nervous. It's only 12° Fahrenheit right now and I don't know what I'm going to find. I will admit that I cheated on you guys and I did come out here in the middle of the night like I don't know probably around 1:00 a.m. or so just to see what was going on. I like woke up at one point and just that became the immediate thought in my head. So, I had to get out here and nothing happened then. So, I don't know what we're going to find as I come out here right now. The girls. Morning, girls. Hey, Annie. How's it going, girl? Well, as I'm looking, I don't see any new calves on the ground. I see Bonnie back there over next to Anna Green Gables's baby, but I don't see any calves, which I'm going to consider a good thing. Would you guys look who just tried to join me down by the cattle? Boys, you are not allowed to be down here. Come on. Come on. Get go. Hopefully they don't try to break into the cattle yard because that's something I don't necessarily want to have to deal with right now. The big girls are a little confused by the goats. You don't know what to make of it, huh girls? So, do you guys remember how last night it was a complete soup down here? Now it's like walking on concrete. It is not comfortable at all. Now, Amanda Hugging Kiss is curious about the goats. All right, boys. I'll give you some fresh hay in just a minute. Just chill out. You You have some pine naan. Keep doing your thing. How's mama Ann doing? How's some alalfa? Okay, I know you want me to put it down. I put it down for you. You can eat it that one there. Hey, Ariel. How's it going, sweetheart? Enjoy. I bet Betty Rubble, you want a treat? Here you go, girl. You are going to be a very good cow someday. All right, let's check on these girls and see how they're doing. Hey, Audrey. You expecting any babies anytime soon? Nah, you look like you got a little ways to go. You're definitely looking Pers, but if I'm looking at your utter development down there, you got some time. That's perfect. Thank you for giving us a better view of that. Yeah. No, you're not quite ready to go. Good morning, little girl. How are you doing? Oh, you don't have to be afraid. I was just coming to visit. I was actually going to go check back there myself. Well, she definitely looks like she has a little bit more mucus. No baby just yet. Bonnie, got something for you. You want a treat? You usually love treats. What's going on with you this morning? I just don't know you guys. I think she's close, but I can't exactly tell. I think we're just going to have to keep waiting and watching. I will admit, I'm not necessarily disappointed that she didn't have her baby overnight. You know, anytime you have freezing weather and like, you know, good hard freeze like this, it's never inspiring to want to have calves, but given how hardy these little ones are, I'm not like terrified of the idea. I mean, as I look at her, she's about 4 days old right now, and she's already getting spunky. You can see her wandering around the moonscape that is the farm right now. It is incredible though to see how quickly they develop. This is one of the reasons why I say Annie's a good mom. She just really knows how to take care of those calves and she does it so sweetly and kindly. A site like this brings me so much joy. Oh no. So much for a peaceful morning. All right, you guys. Here's the perks of being a farm dog. I've got two cracked eggs. One for Mr. Toby dog. Don't worry. Don't worry. I didn't forget the Abby dog. Here you go. Right from the egg cup. There you go. So, I don't know what to tell you guys. We're still here on the farm. Spring is like coming and going and then coming and then going again. But I guess that's weather in New England. I'm really curious to see when Bonnie McMurray or really any of my other cattle have their calves. But you will find out about it very, very soon. Thanks for watching everybody.
